Way Back

Tracey Gratch

We never thought to mark the path, to pen
the map to lead us back to that high peak;
we saw beyond horizons, into seas.

We never fathomed such a wind could move
terrain, disbanding limb by limb by limb.
Clearcut, or so it seemed, we lost the forest

and the trees. Now doubling back to higher ground
as from above the foothills call, we make
our way; recalling way back when, by when.
